My Father's Brother Buddy
The Group Photo Is The Day Of Their Mama's Funeral.
Buddy Is Standing 3rd To The Far Left.
He was the 3rd child of 8 born to Henry and Annie "Laura" Simpson.
At age 8, on Thanksgiving Day in 1923, a horrific car/train accident claimed the life of his father Henry Simpson. Henry was not at fault. His father was only 37. His oldest brother William "Harold", age 11, was thrown from the vehicle and miraculously survived. His youngest brother James "Jimmy" was later born posthumously in April 1924. His father had co-owned the Hope Ice Company in Hope, Arkansas with his brothers. All who knew his father shared in this heartbreak.
He so much loved good ol' honky tonk western music and was incredibly friendly. He was loving and kind and had a fun sense of humor. At a young age he had no wife but had a daughter. I do not have any information as to who they are. Every child in this family suffered from being orphaned and dealt with it in their own way. He became a lost soul.
It pains me to write this.. he spent the last years of his life as a bit of a vagabond between California and Nevada. The last time I saw him, dad gave him a heavy warm coat and we drove him to SeaTac airport. I can still see uncle Buddy turning to smile and wave as I watched him walk away. Thank goodness he had served his country in WW II. The VA hospital was able to take him in, in the end.
He had a kind heart for homeless animals. In 1974 his brother Richard went from Parkland, Washington to California where he had just passed away, to rescue his dog. When my uncle Richard got there, someone had stolen the dog.
He and his fur-baby are Loved and Missed ❤

WE HAVE A SECRET
We have a secret, you and I
that no one else shall know,
for who but I can see you lie
each night in fire glow?
And who but I can reach my hand
before we go to bed
and feel the living warmth of you
and touch your silken head?
And only I walk woodland paths
and see ahead of me,
your small form racing with the wind
so young again, and free.
And only I can see you swim
in every brook I pass
and when I call, no one but I
can see the bending grass.
