Services for Dr. Alonzo F. Brand, 65, a retired medical director of the U.S. Public Health Service who died Sunday in Fort Myers Beach, Fla., will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Henninger Funeral Home, the Rev. Dr. Richard N. Stroman officiating.
Dr. Brand, who practiced medicine in Fayetteville, N.Y. for 20 years before joining the government agency in 1942, will be buried in Charles Evans Cemetery.
He moved to the Florida community after his retirement in 1960 as medical officer in charge of quarantine at the U.S. Consulate in Toronto, Canada. During his career, he was decorated by the king of Thailand for his work in a public health program there.
