James R. Petty, age 87, of Forsyth, passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at the Rosebud Health Care Nursing Home in Forsyth.
James was born on May 17, 1920, the son of John and Rose (Lambert) Petty, in Sidney, MT. James was raised and educated, along with his nine brother and sisters, in Savage, MT
He enlisted in the United States Army in 1940 and while serving he spent some time stationed at Guadalcanal. After being honorably discharged in 1945, he moved to Portland, OR where he worked as a lineman for General Electric.
James was united in marriage to Sybil Cummins in February of 1947. To this union two children were born. He was later united in marriage to Jean O'Leary in Klamath Falls Oregon in 1952. Together, they moved back to Montana and resided in Sanders where he enjoyed his retirement and working on his small farm.
James especially loved being outdoors and took interest in hunting and trapping. He liked to visit with people and enjoyed the company of the residents at the Rosebud Health Care Nursing Home. James also attended the Forsyth Wesleyan Church.
James was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and eight siblings.
He is survived by his children, Bev (Stan) Watson of Forsyth and Dale (Kori) of Billings; five grandchildren, Angela Petty, Jody Verity, Justin Watson, Richard and Dalene Petty; his sister, Florence of Elliot Lake, Ontario Canada and numerous nieces and nephews.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made the Forsyth Wesleyan Church.
