Chalice Gwendolyn Eastman of Independence died on March 5, 2002 in Dallas. She was 97.
She was born to Arthur and Adeline Dillon Graham in Easter Township, S.D.
She spent her young life in Minnesota and as a young child she homesteaded on the prairies of North Dakota. At the age of 10 she taught herself to play the organ and a week later she began playing for the church.
On December 3, 1923 she married Russell Eastman and they settled in Yuba City, CA.
In 1968 they moved to Oregon and in the mid 70's moved to the Monmouth and Independence area.
She enjoyed sewing, ceramics, her garden and was a great cook.
She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 73 years and a son, Robert.
Survivors include her daughter, Alice Edelfsen of Independence; son, James Eastman of Paradise City, CA; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren.
Services were March 8, 2002 at Dallas Mortuary Chapel and entombment was at Restlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Salem.
