Fondly remembered as the exasperated protagonist in the classic Fred Astaire/Ginger Rogers films "The Gay Divorcee" (1934) and "Top Hat" (1935). In the 1960s, he was the narrator on television's Fractured Fairy Tales on The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show (1959–61). He was the hardware store owner on "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World," movie.
