Two Men Killed By Interurban Car
Frank Munsch and Peter Santropietro hit at Benning crossing
Failed to Stop Their Auto
Claimed that Motorman gave the proper warning
Frank Munsch, building contractor, and Jerry Santropietro, both of Perry, were instantly killed at the Bennington road crossing of the Michigan Electric Railway, last Saturday morning. Munsch was driving a Dodge touring car and it is believed he either tried to beat the train over the crossing or failed to notice the car which was coming from the south. The view is partially cut off at the south.
Munsch had been building a large barn on the farm of Edward McCall, west of Vernon. Santropietro had been riding to work and back with Edward Harris, another Perry man employed by Munsch, but Saturday morning decided to ride with Munsch. The men had been to the McCall farm, but because of rain decided to return home, and were enroute back to Perry when the accident happened.
Robert Coon, Timothy Bouchard and E.R. Goodwon, section men, stood on the waiting room platform and saw the accident as also did Henry Jacobs, a farmer residing across the road. When the reached the two men they were dead. Two boys riding the interurban car declare the men were hurled through the top of auto after it was struck. It is said Munsch was driving at a fast rate, and did not heed the repeated whistling of the car.
Munsch was 47 years old and is survived by a widow and four children. Mrs. Munsch has had poor health for three years and her condition has been quite serious since the tragedy.
Santropietro was 36 years old and unmarried. He had planned to return to his native land in Italy this year.
The crossing is the same place where W.H. Holstead, a rural mail carrier was killed a few years ago, and where Clayton Thomas was struck recently.

Accident victim to be buried Tues.
The funeral of Frank Munsch, Perry township resident who was killed Saturday morning when his car was struck by an interurban four miles south of Owosso, will be held at the Munsch home, south of Perry, Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock. Burial will be made at Roselawn Cemetery.
The remains of Jerry Santropietro, who was killed in the same accident, were shipped to Chicago Saturday night.
