Bessie Oakley was born 11-27-1895 in Dansville, Ingham Township, Ingham County, Michigan. She was the oldest child of the 13 children of Fred and Nettie (Fitch) Gailey.

On 8-19-1922 at the age of 26 she married Stephen Harvey Oakley in Mason, Michigan. They lived and farmed in Alaiedon Township until his death 11-19-1964.

Harvey and Bessie did not have children. She was a good friend and neighbor to all that knew her. Always ready to help those that needed her. To most she was known as "Aunt Bessie".

She died 7-3-1990 and is buried in the Leek Cemetery beside her beloved husband, Harvey.
