Lester L. Bess, 75, of Ashland passed away Monday, May 11, 2009, at Colonial Manor in Loudonville.

Lester was born Nov. 2, 1933, in Sawyer City, Pa., the son of James and Myrtle Sherwood Bess.

Lester served in the National Guard in the U.S. Navy. He was a retired truck driver and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Lester will be deeply missed by his children, Brian Bess of Bradford, Pa., Arthur Merritt of South Carolina, Andrea Mohr of Salamanca, N.Y., and Jaeme Gadley of Canne, Pa.; sister and brothers, Bonnie (Randy) McQuate of Ashland, Gary of Florida and Raymond (Marlene) Walton of Lodi; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend, Maude.

Lester was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.
