Emma T "Teddi" Quinn, passed Thursday, May 27, 2004 at St John's Regional Medical Center. After a lengthly illness.

Married to Joseph P Quinn, July 23,1955. Mother of J M. (Lori-Lynn Sugita), Cathe M (Micheal Abbey) & Trisha Ann. Grandmother to Jayme (Ryan Hoffteig) Jeff (Kim Salinas), Julianne (Wednesday). And now a Great Grandmother to her name sake Emma Abigale Hofteig.

Born to John and Mary Taatjes; Teddi had four brothers; Joe (Jane), Nick (Inez), John (Marge) and baby Tommy (Jean). Teddi was the beloved only daughter.

Born during the depression, Teddi spent some of her toddler-hood "on the farm" with her grand parents. Her grandfather called her Lil'Oma due to her resemblance to her grandmother, who was said to be 4 and a half feet tall and around. Sure enough, there is a picture of Oma and Lil Oma at approximately 2 years of age. She was her Oma's mini-me. Due to 3 episodes of rheumatic fever in early childhood that left her with heart damage, Teddi spent most of her adolescence living with her Aunt Catherine. None the less, she loved her parents and brothers and missed them dearly.

More than once while she was young, doctors told her parents she "wouldn't make it through the night". She went on to make it through 79 years of nights, including the long ones she spent with her 3 children and later her 3 grandchildren.

Grad of Cushing Academy, Tufts University, Mass General Hospital; School of Nursing. Teddi was a Pre Med student at Tufts University - when one of her professors of chemistry told her she was taking up a valuable space that should be held by a man. He told her he would fail her if he had to and would only pass her if she dropped out of the pre med program. After graduating from Tufts she taught high school for two years before finding her true calling - She became an RN - a career she put on hold when she married the love of her life - Her Joe - together they had 3 children in 5 years. Once she got the kids through elementary school, she returned to work- She became the Unit Coordinator in Orthopedics and Neurosurgery, at St John's Regional Medical Center - a job she held until retirement. Retirement never meant slowing down - she and Joe traveled the US in a motor home together. But coming home was always her favorite part of traveling.

~ Her family was her first love, but Nursing was her passion ~ one that she shared with her first born daughter.
