***CHURCH Jewel Marie Church died on Thursday, December 30, 1999, after suffering complications resulting from cancer. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 4, 2000, 2:00 PM at Vondel L. Smith & Son funeral chapel in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Dr. Tom Elliff, pastor of First Southern Baptist Church, Del City, Okla homa, will lead the memorial service. Marie was 87 years old, having been born on July 14, 1912, in Wichita Falls, Texas. She was one of six children born to Isom Parker Deatherage and Ibbic Priscilla Taylor Deatherage.
In her early years, the Deatherage family staked and proved a claim near DeMoines, New Mexico, living in an adobe house with a dirt floor. Marie became the bride of Henry Gant Church on December 29, 1928, in Quanah, Texas. The couple moved to Lubbock, Texas in 1929 where they raised their daughter and three sons. They moved to Moore, Oklahoma, in 1985. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Gant Church; two children, Katherine Marie Sirpless and Bobby Gene Church; two brothers, Farris Rolan and Allen Deatherage; and one half-brother, Ovid Lee Davis. She is survived by two sons, Jerry Rolan Church and Terry Nolan Church, both of Oklahoma City; one sister, Ann Meeks of Lubbock, Texas; two brothers, Morris Evert Deatherage of Lubbock, Texas and Omer Carlton Deatherage, also of Lubbock, Texas; ten grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren and eleven great great grandchildren.
