In Memoriam. Hiram L. Curtis.
By his death, Osakis has lost one of its early settlers. He was born in Livingstone county, N.Y., April 23, 1819. In 1838, he came with his parents to Porter county, Ind., where in 1854 he married Mary V. Curtis, their union being blessed with ten children, one of which had already preceded him to the spirit land. He made a profession of religion and became of member of the M.E. church in 1857 of which he was still a member. In 1868, he came with his family to Osakis where he had ever since resided. Physically delicate, yet ambitious, he toiled bravely till the Death angel beckoned him over the dark river. He bore his sickness with christian fortitude and as he yielded trusting to his Fathers call to come up higher.
Left the warm precincts of the cheerful day
Nor cast one longing, lingering look behind.
Sad and lonely are the hearts that now gather around the once cheerful hearthstone. The vacant chair tells but too eloquently that a kind father and husband has been called hence to be here no morel. He is only gone before, and in the joyful reunion beyond the tomb, the now broken circle will again be complete. A.
