Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial will be at Peaceful Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Guajardo Funeral Chapels.
Reyes passed away Saturday, May 9, 2009 at University Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born in Lubbock on July 12, 1920, the son of Isidoro and Micaela Bustillos, who preceded him in death. Reyes married Veva Moncada in 1940 in Lubbock. He was the youngest of 13 children.
The Bustillos were one of the first Hispanic families to settle in the Lubbock area in the late 1800s.He was a lifelong resident of Lubbock and retired from the cement construction industry. He was also a devotee of St. Joseph's Catholic Church for many years.
Reyes is remembered by all those who knew him for his ability to make friends wherever he went. He had the wonderful gift of giving and sharing with others. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Pricilla Bravo of Idalou.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Veva Bustillos; six children, Tandy Bustillos, Ramon Bustillos, and John Bustillos all of Irving, Ray Bustillos, Jr. of Austin, Lupe Reyes of Lubbock, Vivian Keith of Longview; 28 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren and 24 great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Ramon Bustillos, Jr., Jaime Bustillos, Albert Bravo, Moses Reyes, Jr., John Bustillos, Jr., and Miguel Mendez.
The Bustillos family wants to thank the many friends and relatives for their expressions of love and sympathy. The family is thankful for the compassionate care that Reyes received in the ICU at the University Medical Center from Amy, Aaron, Julie, Brittany, Gary, Mitch, David and the doctors.
