Memphis, TN - Hazel Mae Jackson was born April 19, 1921 in Mobile, AL to Horace and Ella Mae Jackson. She had 2 older brothers, Robert and Horace Jr. and a younger sister, Elizabeth, all of whom preceded her in death. The family moved several times when she was young as I'm sure her father did whatever was necessary during those years that included the Great Depression. The family moved back to Meridian, MS where she finished high school. In 1945 she met and married M L Robinson in Meridian and in 1946 had their first child, Gail, followed by their second child, M L Jr. (Mel), in 1947. In September of that year they moved to Jackson, TN where they lived for 16 years. While in Jackson Hazel's mother had a stroke and was confined to bed for the rest of her life. Hazel took care of her at home for 9 1/2 years until her death. In 1963 M L was transferred to Memphis. The family joined Ridgeway Baptist Church (formerly Southern Ave. Baptist) where she became the music secretary, a position she held for 25 years before she retired in 1988. M L passed away in 1980 and daughter Gail in 2008. In 2010 she moved to Irving, TX to be close to her son. After moving to Texas she made many friends at the Remington retirement community and MacArthur Ave Baptist Church. She leaves a son, Mel and wife Keith; 4 grandchildren, Amanda McMaster (Darrell), Matt Robinson (Jessica), Patrick Lohmeyer (Suzette), Jennifer Tedrick (Chris); 7 great grandchildren, Grace McMaster, Jolie and Cal Robinson, Aidan and Bridget Lohmeyer, Grant and Juliet Toney and a son-in-law, Henno Lohmeyer. Hazel was a faithful and practicing Christian, a devoted and loving mother and a friend to many she met in her almost 96 years. She passed away on April 3, 2017. She will be missed by those who knew and loved her. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Sunday April 9 at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Ave Memphis. There will be visitation from 1:00 to 2:00. In lieu of flowers the family requests that you make a donation to the charity of your choice.
