William John Acker, had been working as farm laborer, until just before the outbreak of World War I. He next was working as a civilian clerk for the Quartermaster Department, of the U.S. Army, in San Benito, Texas. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on September 6, 1917 and shipped out to France with a Field Clerk unit on October 17, 1917, on board the Tenadores . He served as Private 1st Class, in the American Expeditionary Force in World War I. He continued to serve in France, after the war ended, until his return home on August 20, 1919, and then receiving his honorable discharge on September 28, 1920 . He was living in Chicago, Illinois 1920-1921. He returned to France as an employee of the International Harvester company, to work in their Nantes, France plant, on August 5, 1921. He filed for a two year work permit through the U.S. Consul and also filed for a U.S. passport, and one was issued to him, by the Department of State, on June 29, 1921. After his return to the United States, he was working as a Clerk for the U.S. Government. He was joined in marriage to Jeanette F. née _____ on
