ELVA COATS, 1914-2006
Elva Weyand Coats, 92, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006, in Kansas City. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, at Memorial Funeral Home, with visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. She was born on Nov. 23, 1914, in Bellwood, Neb., to Stanton and Claudene Weyand. Elva was a devoted member of Midway Locust Grove Methodist Church in Midway, where she taught Sunday school until she was 85. She loved to paint and sew. She donated paintings to the Creed classroom at church as well as sewing banners, which are hung in the sanctuary. She was an exceptional quilter and belonged to the UMC Quilters of Columbia. She was a member of the Daughters of American Colonists and served as historian. She is survived by her daughter, Norma Jean Lint and her husband, Gary Lint, of Kansas City; grandchildren Deanne, Clarke, Tracey and Kay; stepgrandchildren Bambi and James; daughter-in-law Sarah Coats and her children, Mike and Wesley; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Coats; her son, Larry Coats; and her sisters, Eva Scott and Leila Burks; and her brothers, Myron Weyand, Floyd Weyand and Gilbert Weyand. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to the memorial fund at Midway Locust Grove Methodist Church, 2600 N. Locust Grove Church Road, Columbia, Mo., 65202. She will be missed by her family and friends.
