Alexander was born to Alex Vassar and Ethel Bond Sept 11, 1924. He grew up with one older brother Robert and a younger sister Margaret. He was always wanting to "do things his way" and for the most part of his life, he did just that. He joined the navy during WW2 and went to the Pacific. His ship was hit and many men were killed. He was injured and spent the next two years in a veterans hospital. He later married Ruth Sigsworth and they had 5 children; 4 boys and a girl. In the late 60's he left Calif. where all of the kids were being raised by his mother, and went to Alaska to fish on his own fishing boat. He spent the next 35 years in Alaska fishing and living on his own boat. It was during a very bad storm in Oct, 1995 that he was killed on the boat he loved so much. It happened during the storm and his boat was between two larger fishing vessels and they came together and broke his small fishing boat in half. He drowned in the Reliance Harbor in Wrangell, Alaska. It is there that his ashes have been scattered at sea.
