Sgt. Killed in Action in France.
Short services are to be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Armstrong funeral home in Seville for Sgt. Ivan H. Acker 23, who lost his life in Canale, France Sept. 4, 1944. Additional services will be held later that afternoon at the grave at Acme Lutheran church cemetery with Rev. M. G. Bishop, church pastor officiating. Friends may call at Armstrong's Friday afternoon and evening. Sgt. Acker son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Acker of Acme, was killed by a booby trapped artillery shell while clearing a Normandy beach at a LST landing point. Attached to an engineers division specializing in bridge construction, an 80 foot bridge over the Reye canal near Marseilles and constructed by men of his company has been named in his honor in 1945. The bridge, 84 feet long and 20 feet wide is capable of bearing 85 tons. Surviving besides his parents are a widow Hazel, now Mrs. Elmer Kramer of Charleston, W. Va. and a son Larry; 2 brothers Leonard and Lloyd and 2 sisters, Mrs. Paul Handshue and Mrs. Arthur Buerge all of the vicinity of Acme. Medina Gazette with correction.

Married Hazel M. Ream on 25 Jan 1942 in Medina County, Ohio. She was the daughter of Vern & Miriam (Kaufman) Ream.
