Dr. Greg A. Derringer was born in Greenwood, Indiana to Gene Derringer & Judy Briggs. Early on in his life he demonstrated brilliance and excellence and went on to graduate from Greenwood Community High School (1981) before graduating from Indiana University School of Medicine (1990). Dr. Derringer also completed his residency in pathology where he was a very well respected resident. Greg did his fellowship in hematopathology before accepting a position with the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology located at Walter Reed Medical Hospital.

In his short and aspiring carrer, Dr. Derringer authored many scientific papers on cancers involving the spleen, lymphatic system, and bone marrow. At the time of his death he was one of the leading experts in hematopathology in the United States.

Dr. Derringer died in August 20, 2000. He was entering the Mount Vernon Metro station when he was attacked, robbed, and stabbed once in the chest. The police have no suspects and no one has been charged in this tragic random crime.

Dr. Derringer is survived by his mother, Judy Briggs, Step-father Tony Briggs, 3 brothers, Anthony Derringer, Michael Derringer, and Chris Derringer, several nieces and nephews, and many friends and co-workers, all who loved him dearly.
