Arlene Peffer, of York and formerly of Anaheim, CA, passed away Monday, April 27, 2009.

She was a daughter of the late Arthur V. and Lillie (Kimmel) Bowen.

Arlene earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education from California State University at Fullerton, and her M.E.D. from Pepperdine University. She began her teaching career in Mechanicsburg School District in the early 1940s and then spent the majority of her career teaching 5th and 6th grades in the Magnolia School District in Anaheim.

She was a member of the American Assoc. of University Women, Natl. Education Assoc., and California Teachers Assoc., and she served as an officer for the Magnolia Educators Assoc. Mrs. Peffer viewed teaching as much more than a profession. She held a profound passion for her students and poured her heart and soul into touching many young lives. She was an active member of West Anaheim United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Peffer was the wife of the late Philip B. Peffer and is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Wesley S. and Joan Peffer of York; three grandchildren, Rachel K., Philip R., and Rebecca E. Peffer; and a sister, Velma Weaver of East Waterford, Juniata Co.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Frank E. Peffer; two sisters, Geraldine Whitner and Marion Fettro; and a brother, Ernest Bowen.

Interment was in Fairhaven Memorial Park, Orange, CA.
