September 12, 1918, William Hubert Thomas registered for the draft at St. Jo, Montague, Texas.

On December 6, 1919, William Hubert Thomas wrote an unauthorized check on his uncle Isaac L. Reese. The amount was $27.50, (this being worth about $395 in 2016). William Thomas was arrested. Bail was set at $500, which was posted by another uncle, James W. Teakell.

At the end of January 1920, William was taking the census records, was living as a boarder and used the name William H. Newman. This is the first known aliases he used.

By March 4, 1920, William H. Thomas had skipped town and his uncle James Teakell had to forfeit the bond. William H. Thomas was never seen again by his family in Oklahoma.

On Nov 14, 1920 William HUBERT THOMAS joined the Army as William ALLEN THOMPSON. He entered the service at Camp Travis, Texas. He was discharged at Fort McDowell, California and his papers were signed Oct 22, 1923. He had served 2 years, 11 months, and 9 days and was paid $253.36 for longevity pay at discharge.

William Allen Thompson lived the rest of his life in Daly City, California. He was a motorman for the famous San Francisco cable cars. He had two sons and two daughters who all bore the last name of Thompson. He told his wife and family that his mother and father were dead so they never had a chance to meet them.

Actually, his mother lived until 1961, 12 years after William had died in 1949. No record of his father exists after 1900.
