Medina County Gazette-July 27, 1888: deep hearted this life, July 17, 1888, aged 75 years, two months and 17 days, Mrs. Marena Damon, surrounded by two of her daughters, Mrs. Granby of Cleveland and Mrs. Lang, of California, and her son George, after a painful sickness of three months. Mrs. Damon was a woman of unusual ambition and strength. She came to this town in the fall of 1846, a widow almost penniless with a large family and all in poor health, coming from Indiana covered with ague and fever, and as cold winter was coming on and but little to do with, she started out to find something for herself and children to do to keep the wolf from the door, and soon fell in with a kindhearted family in Penfield that assisted her in this time of need, and have been her true friends to the end, and a portion of them followed her remains to the grave, and in behalf of the children and respects to the departed mother, we returned them thanks. Mrs. Damon has seen both sides of life, struggling with poverty and living in comparative ease. Six months since her prospects are long life was better than most people of her age, smart and active in body and mind. But last Thursday a large number of sympathizing friends followed her to the borne from which no traveler returns.
