Before entering the Army in July of 1943, Robert was a crane operator for the Copperweld Steel Company. After training at Camp Blanding, Florida, he sailed for New Guinea where he joined the 32nd (Red Arrow) Division.
Robert was awarded an Oak Leaf Cluster to the Purple Heart for wounds received during the Leyte Campaign. He saw action with the Red Arrowmen at Aitape, New Guinea and fought thru the subsequent operations at Morotai, Leyte and Luzon.
After the War he was an electrician, and worked for the RMI Company, of Niles, Ohio. He worked there 31 years, retiring in 1981.
