Son of Almen Raymond and Dora(Barve)Dangler. His biggest love was driving truck, which he did for the bulk of his working years. He did stop driving during the time he and his wife, Margaret, owned the City Cafe in Homer, Michigan. But he yearned to be back in that "cab".

He married Margaret Mitchell Neelis on 15 May 1940, in Jackson, Michigan. She had a daughter from a previous marriage but he became more of a dad to her than her birth father. Bud and Margaret had one son,Duane Gale. He converted to Catholicism during the time that they returned to live in Cheboygan, Michigan. after retiring from trucking he worked at Cheboygan Lumber, primarily in the paint department.
