JOHN HERBERT WATSON, Jr., age 73 of Devine passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2009 in Devine. John was born in Kingsville, TX on March 2, 1936 to the late John Herbert & Robbie (Lilly) Watson.

John and his parents moved to Devine when he was 3 years old and have lived in Devine ever since. He graduated from Texas A & M University and taught Agriculture in Devine for a couple of years. He decided teaching was not for him and started Watson Custom Cattle Service. He showed Brahman cattle in several of the southern states. He has always had Brahman cattle, like his grandfather, W.S. Lilly, who brought the Brahman cattle into Medina County.

John was an approved Brahman judge and judged many Brahman shows. He had served on the American Brahman Breeders Association Executive Committee; he was President of the Texas Brahman Association from 1976-1978. He had traveled to many foreign countries selling Brahman cattle.

He owned and operated Loggins & Lilly for several years. Later he had a used Equipment Yard, but he has always been a rancher and raised Brahman Cattle.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lucille (Briggs) Watson. Also four sons and their wives: John Herbert III and Kim of Somerton, AZ, Warren Travis and Laurie of Wolfe City, TX, Wesley Marvin and Sharon of Brady, TX, and Clint Paul and Shelly of Nacogdoches, TX. Nine grandchildren: Joslynn, Meagan, Riley, Hayden, Shelby, Paul, Ashton, Jacob and Sydney, and one sister Mary Jo Wainscott and husband Bernie.
