Johnny was a son of Charles and Cuma Skeen, also buried at lake Creek cemetery. Johnny had a little brother named Calvin. After Charles died, Cuma and the 2 boys lived in the home of Pat and Winnie Ayles, (Cuma's sister). After a time Cuma died and the authorities asked Pat if he and Winnie would like to keep the boys and raise them. Pat took Johnny because he was old enough to work but Calvin was too young to work. So Calvin was sent to an orphanage until he was 21 years old. When Johnny was a teenager Pat would send him on horseback to tend his cows.

In those days the Sulphur River (the dividing line between Delta and Lamar Counties) had not been dug out and widened. When it rained a lot the river would overflow and flood the bottom land. One day Pat sent Johnny into the flood water to get them and Johnny drowned.
