Civil War Union veteran; he enlisted as a Private in Company I, 19th Indiana Infantry. He mustered in on July 29, 1861. He was wounded at the Second Battle of Bull Run on August 30, 1862, and at the Battle of Gettysburg on July 1, 1863. He completed his three years of service and mustered out in July, 1864. He returned to his home state of Indiana, where he married Charity A. Thacher on December 14, 1865. He died only 3 years later, at the age of 28.

Phil Harris, a 19th Indiana Infantry researcher, identified the location of George Adams' grave. When he visited the site in person, he found that the original marker was badly deteriorated. In April 2010, Phil Harris replaced it with a new one. More than 140 years after his death, Pvt. George Adams' sacrifice is remembered and honored, and will be preserved for generations to come.
