FRANKSVILLE - Archie Sanford Mitchell, 79, passed away Monday, December 14, 1998.

Archie was born to the union of Mary and Archie Mitchell on June 23, 1919, in Burlington, Iowa. His childhood days were spent in this close community, where he completed his formal education that include two years of college. Soon after leaving college, he joined the United States Army, where he achieved the rank of Sergeant.

Archie met his wife-to-be, Allena Ray, in 1955 while she worked as a Literature Evangelist in Racine. She introduced him to the Seventh-day Adventist Church through literature she offered him. Some three years later, he gave his life to Christ, whereupon he received Bible studies and became a life-long baptized member of the Racine Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Soon after joining the church, Archie and Allena were joined in holy matrimony in the Racine Seventh-day Adventist Church in 1958. They soon moved to Franksville, where they had resided for 38 years.

Archie was an excellent provider who had dreams of owning his own business. Instead, he worked as a Janitor at Johnson Wax and as a Draftsman at the J.I. Case Company in Racine for more than 30 years. He retired from this labor in 1985.

A man blessed with deep intellect and a speaker of very few words, Archie loved his wife, his work, his church, and his Lord. He served his Lord by working in the church as an elder and a Sabbath School Teacher.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his loving and devoted wife, Allena; a nephew, William D. Pettis of Tampa, Fla.; a niece, Barbara Goodman of St. Peters, Mo.; 10 grandnephews; his church family; and a host of friends.

Archie was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Mona; and his brother, William.

Funeral services will be held at the Racine Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1810 Durand Avenue, on Wednesday, December 16, 1998, at 7 p.m. with Pastor Rafael Fernandez officiating. Interment will take place at the Raymond Seventh Day Adventist Church Cemetery on Thursday at 10 a.m. Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday from 5 until 7 p.m.
