Daingerfield Lewis, of "Marmion", King George Co., Va.; son of George Washington Lewis (1757-1821) and Catherine Daingerfield (1764-1820); born July 14, 1785; died Sept. 18, 1862; married Sep. 10, 1807 in Spotsylvania Co., Va., Lucy, born 1787, daughter of Thomas Pratt and Jane Brockenbrough. They resided at Marmion throughout their lives, and had twelve children. Lucy Brockenbrough Lewis, died 16th August 1856 — aged 69 years.

Obituary, published in the Richmond Enquirer on Sept. 30, 1862: "Died, at Marmion, his seat, in King George county, Va., on the 20th day of September, 1862, DANGERFIELD LEWIS, Esq., in the 78th year of his age. Had the prayers and tender assiduities of devoted children and grand-children been effectual, the beloved and venerated subject of this notice would have been longer __ to bless them with his patriarchal presence, companionship and council on earth. But it pleased the wise Disposer of events to order otherwise. He has sunk quietly and calmly to rest, leaving behind the memory of a long life well spent, and devoted to acts of kindness, the happiness of his family, and the usefulness of his fellow man. His character was indeed illustrated by many noble and shining virtues. Mr. Lewis was a relict of the olden time, a link between the past and present generation. His manners and tastes were simple and plain, his house ever the resort of friends, where a cordial welcome greeted the coming guest, and hospitality was dispensed with an unostentatious and almost prodigal liberality. Social in his habits and cheerful in his disposition, until the calamities of this war and the loss of several members of his family affected the buoyancy of his spirits. He was the life of his company and a pleasant, even gay, companion fo the young, in whose society he delighted to mingle. An enthusiastic, as well as practical farmer, and eminently successful in agricultural pursuits, he found his chief pleasure amid his flocks and fields, and in the charms of the domestic circle. He was a most affectionate parent, a loyal citizen, punctual in all his engagements, and a rare example of that courage and manly truth and honor which complete the excellence of a truly good man. Many are the friends who will miss his presence and deeply lament his death. His family are consoled in their bereavement in the remembrance that their revered parent has left a name which they can ever recall with pride, as without stain and without reproach."
