A funeral for former longtime Carlton resident Marjorie M. Etter of Merced, Calif., will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Macy & Son Funeral Directors, McMinnville, with the Rev. Ron Mulles officiating.

Private family interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park, McMinnville.

Mrs. Etter died Jan. 3, 2003, in Atwater, Calif. She was 85.

She was born Jan. 3, 1918, in Frederick, S.D., the daughter of Marvin A. and Mabel D. Turnquist Austin. She moved to Oregon as a young girl.

Mrs. Etter lived in Carlton for more than 40 years. She and her husband owned and operated a grocery store in Carlton. She had lived in Merced for the last 27 years. She worked as a sales clerk for J.C. Penney Co. in California for 25 years.

Family members said she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and especially enjoyed having lunch with friends. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting.

Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Rigers of Merced and Marjean Taylor of Milwaukie; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
