Donald C. Phillips, son of the late Grover C. Philips and Virgie Williams Phillips, was born on Feb. 18, 1926 at Zeta and died in the John Cochran Veterans Administration Medical Center at St. Louis on April 8, 2009 at the age of 83.

Mr. Phillips was a member of the St. Joe General Baptist Church at Idalia, a former general contractor, and a veteran of the US Army, serving in World War II. He was a resident of rural Dexter.

He was united in marriage to Virginia Ramsey on March 9, 1947 at Piggott, Ark. Mrs. Phillips preceded him in death on Jan. 17, 2004.

He is survived by a special friend, Betty Edwards; by two sons, Larry Dale Phillips of Dexter and Marvin Dean Phillips of Jefferson City; by two daughters, Donnis Kay McAnulty of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Sharon Darlene Summers of Dexter; by two brothers, Billy Phillips of Tacoma, Wash., and Bobby Phillips of Paris, Tenn.; by one sister, Vertaree Magee of Oak Ridge; by three grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, four step great-grandchildren and one step great-great-grandchild.

Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Danny Lee Phillips; by two brothers, Ralph Phillips and Murlin Phillips.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday, April 11, 2009. Funeral services will be conducted at noon in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dan Sitze officiating. Interment will follow in the Walker Cemetery near Bloomfield.
