Olean, N.Y. "Times Herald", dated December 24, 1948
John C. Smith, 206 North Eighteenth Street, died today (December 24, 1948). Mr. Smith was born in Bennington, N.Y., July 31, 1866 and formerly resided in Arcade, N.Y. He Made his home with his daughter, Mrs D. C. Blackmon, Olean, for the past two years.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Evie Smith, Olean; one daughter, Mrs. Blackmon, Olean; two sons, W.(n.b. this is an error. The correct initial is N) Reid Smith, Albany, N.Y. and H. Elon Smith, Bradford, Pa.; eight grandchildren and five great-grand children.
Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon (December 27, 1948) at the home of J. S. Lyke, Arcade, N.Y. at two o'clock. Burial will be in Sandusky, N.Y."
