Cary Page Boyd (May 13, 1932 – Nov. 7, 2004)

Age 72 of Henderson, passed away at his home on Oxford Road to be with the Lord Sunday November 7, 2004.

Born at Maria Parham Hospital, Henderson NC on May 13, 1932, Cary attended Henderson High School. At age 18 he enlisted to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force, completed basic training in 1950 at Lackland AFB, San Antonio TX, then was stationed at Keesler AFB, Biloxi MS for radar operator training, and on to Norton AFB, San Bernadino CA and Edwards AFB, Mojave Desert CA, where he earned his G. E. D. Cary was last stationed at Fordland AFB, MO working in unit supply before his honorable discharge at age 20 in 1952. He studied book-keeping for a time at Louisburg Junior College, Louisburg, NC. Cary gave his life to the Lord at age 13 and was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Innocents, Henderson, was a devout reader of devotionals, and read the Bible completely through at least seven times. Fond of fishing in Largo Pond, Cary enjoyed recalling Boyd family reunions at that location over the years. He also was an avid hiker and once hiked to the summit of Mt. Mitchell as a scout in his youth. He later walked the 30-mile round trip trek to Largo from Henderson and back in a single day. On more local jaunts, Cary appreciated the company of special neighbors who showed him many kindnesses over the years, indulging him in his love of opinionated and lively conversation. He was a talented and prolific letter-writer and record-keeper, cherishing memories of family and neighbors, remembering birthdays, sending messages of God's love, and sharing his philosophy of counting his blessings every day.

He will be missed by a host of relatives, friends and neighbors. Survivors include his brother William H. Boyd Jr. of Hamlet, NC and wife Anne (Cadieu); nephew William H. Boyd III and wife Amy (Gier) of Newark, DE, and their children Laura and David; niece Lou Ann (Boyd) Frey and husband Mark of Los Altos, CA, and their children Matthew and Steven; and several cousins. Cary was preceded in death by his parents, beloved mother Jessie Page Harris in 1975, and father William Henry Boyd, Senior, Henderson City Engineer, in 1979.

A public memorial service celebrating the life of Cary Page Boyd will be held Thursday, Nov. 11, 2 p.m., at Episcopal Church of the Holy Innocents, 210 S. Chestnut Street, Henderson, conducted by the Rev. Barbara Cooke. Mr. Boyd has donated his body for use in medical research and education at the Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC. Burial is therefore planned for a future date. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the charity of your choice
