Willliam is my 3rd great grandfather! ♥♥

William is the son of Thomas Follon (1780-1841) and Lucy Carpenter. He married Candace Howe (1816-1871) on 01 Sept 1840 in Knox Co. Ohio. She is my 3rd great grandmother.

William S. Follon was born 17 February 1814 in Franklin County, Ohio, and died in Vernon County, Missouri on 20 September 1885. The son of Thomas (1780-1841) and Lucy Carpenter Follon, William spent his childhood in Franklin County. Married on September 1, 1840, to Candace Howe, the family left Ohio in 1852 for Lafayette County, Wisconsin. They lived near Augustine Follon and Henry Follon, whose relationships are brothers.

By 1860, William moved his family to Clayton County, Iowa. In September 1862, William enlisted in the Civil War with Company "K", of the 37th Iowa Infantry. Discharged in May 1865 by reason of telegraph order, William served for 2 years and 8 months.

Candace died in 1871 and is buried in Volga City, Iowa. After her death, William left Iowa with six daughters and located in Smith County, Kansas for about ten years, near his sisters. Leaving Kansas in 1881, William went to Vernon County, Missouri, where his daughter Sarah and husband Nelson Allen resided. William lived with them on their farm near Sheldon and died there in 1885. Burial was in Dunnegan Grove Cemetery. After the estate was settled, daughter Sarah and family moved back to Kansas, where her sister resided.

The ten children of William and Candace are: Loretta born 1842, married first to Oliver Sanford and second to William Agustus "Gus" Payne; Oren born 1844, died in the Civil War and buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis; John born 1845, resided in Clayton County, Iowa and married Bertha Frederick; Sarah born 1846, married Nelson Samuel Allen, resided in Vernon County, Missouri; Lucy Jane born 1850, married Herman Frederick; twins William Riley and Willis born 1852; Inez born 1855, married George Boyd; Rosamond born 1857 married Nelson Peter Jones and they resided in Phillips Co. Kansas; and Texa Amanda born 1860, married Henry Beall and they resided in Smith County, Kansas.
