Emmogene Hake Harrington was the daughter of Israel Levi Hake and Margaret Olive Spaulding. Her paternal grandparents were David Hake and Dorothy Hood. Her maternal grandparents were Lyman Spaulding and Olive Malissa Beach.

Emmogene married John Dantworth Harrington on 9 April 1905, at Edison, Washington. The ceremony was performed by George Baker.

John and Emmogene lived for a time at Ellensburg, Washington and Hellgate, Missoula County, Montana, where John worked at Ft. Missoula. After they left Missoula, John and Emmogene moved to Bow, Washington, now where Bow Hill Road intersects with Interstate 5. This is near the Skagit Casino Resort.

In 1921, Emmogene was committed to the Northern State Hospital. She spent 25 years 2 months 7 days at that place. She died of cancer and was cremated.

Although, no proof exists of her exact burial location, it was common practice at that time to store the cremated remains and at a time of a caretaker's choosing, he would place several containers of remains in a common coffin and bury the coffin. He would then mark a map with the initials of the deceased. It was impossible to determine from this map whether or not Emmogene was buried in the Northern State Hospital Cemetery. No other cemetery, in the area had record of her burial.

Emmogene's name was spelled Emmagene on her marriage certificate, and various court records, however on her hospital records and death certificate it was spelled Emmogene. There was never a headstone for her grave, which is generally the spelling used on memorials. Her grave was never located.

November 2018 Note: According to the records of the City of Sedro Woolley, Washington, Emmogene was buried in 1952. There is no record of the location. The City of Sedro-Woolley assumed ownership of the Northern State Hospital Cemetery on 29 June 2018.
