Son of Zachariah Baker and Alsa "Alcey" Rhodes

"John Wesley Baker was born in 1801. On December 8, 1827, he took as his bride Lavenia Bowers, the daughter of William and Sarah Bowers. The marriage ceremony was conducted by their neighbor and magistrate, Enoch P. Connell. The Bowerses purchased property on Shanes Fork of Mansker's Creek around 1806. John and Lavenia had seven children: Zachariah Andronious "Dron," Martin V., Mary Elizabeth, Sarah Jane, Webster J., James Pitt, and John Connell. The christening of the first son as Zachariah is further indication of the family lineage to Zachariah Baker. A daughter was named Elizabeth which was also the name of John Wesley's grandmother. Probably the only child of John and Lavenia's to be born on the property known as Baker's Station was the youngest child, John Connell Baker. Soon after their marriage, John and Lavenia moved from Tennessee to Green County, Alabama, but they had returned to Davidson by 1840. In 1845 he purchased the irst tract of land at the site which became known as Baker's Station. The 1,176 acre farm was purchased from Jesse Warmack and was located on the headwaters of Sycamore Creek. On April 17, 1850, he added to his holdings by buying 250 acres on the waters of Mansker's Creek. In 1876 he purchased part of the King Luton estate for $160."
