Lad Electrocuted While at Play - Fourth Ward Boy Cutting Initial in Tree Branch Accidently Touches Live Wire Falls Dead To The Ground

Samuel Albert, 9 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Albert, of 662 Downer street, was instantly killed at about 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon, when he accidently touched a live wire in a tree near his home.
The lad was playing with two of his young friends, Stanley Howarth and Fred Webber. They had climbed a big oak tree on Scotch Plains avenue and were busily engaged in cutting their initials in the branches when young Albert touched the live wire and gave a heart-rending cry, which was heard for almost a block.
His playmates got down out of the tree as fast as possible to run for help, but before they had gone many feet, Albert fell to the ground dead.
The police were immediately notified and Dr. Savoye was summoned, who in turn notified the coroner.
The father of the lad is employed in one of the factories in Garwood and the mother was a way from home at the time of the accident. She was notified and was almost prostrated with grief. Besides his mother and father the lad is survived by one sister. The Westfield Leader, Wed, July 21, 1915
