David "Edmonson" (AKA Edmondson or Edmundson) was the son of Major David Edmondson, Sr.* ("died 3 Feb - 30 May 1821, son of James and Agnes") and Sarah Paxton. His brother James, Sr. (1785 - 1833) and sister Jane E. Laird are also buried here.

David, Jr., married Hannah Paxton, the daughter of Joseph Paxton and Margaret "Peggy" Barclay at unknown date and had no children. William McClung Paxton's The Paxtons: Their Origin in Scotland, and Their Migrations Through England..., p 211. It also lists his other siblings: p 200 Wm (Mary Belle McCutchan); p 202: Nancy (Arthur McCluer); p 211: Elizabeth "Betsy" (Jas Templeton) to IN; Sarah (Jos Paxton); Thomas P (Elizabeth McNutt); Thompson (Jane McCutchan); James (Margaret Glasgow); Jane (David Laird); page 221: Mary P (David Laird) and p 225: Dr John in AL.

20 Sep 1848: Democratic State Convention, "David Edmondson of Rockbridge" and many others met. "The Convention was called to order at 11 o'clock, Col. John Rutherfoord in the chair." Published in the Richmond Enquirer (Virginia) dated 26 Sept 1848.

On the 1850 SW District, Rockbridge Co., Virginia census, I found "farmer, etc.," 65 and Hannah Edmonson, 55, both Virginia born.

"David Edmonson died 9 Feb. 1856 of bronchitis, aged 74 years, son of David and Sarah Edmonson, born Rockbridge, a farmer, husband of Hannah Edmondson, H G Davidson & Hannah Edmondson, physician and, wife reported." Rockbridge Co., Virginia Death Registers, 1853-1870, 1912 - 1917, p 46, by Angela M Ruley, Athens, GA, 1991, p 46.

His marker says: DAVID EDMONSON, without an additional D. See transcription below.

He is listed on the July/August 1981 inventory of the Falling Spring Presbyterian Church cemetery by Rev. H. Middleton Raynal and Jeanne D. Mead in section G-3.

MONUMENTAL.-Captain David Edmondson, a a highly respectable and wealthy citizen of Rockbridge county, who was buried at Falling Spring, some months ago, directed that a monument should be erected over his remains at a cost of not less than a thousand dollars. Among the most costly private monuments in that county is that in the Presbyterian burying grounds in Lexington, over the remains of late Governor James McDowell. It cost from $800 to $1,000. Published in the Richmond Enquirer (Virginia) dated 25 Nov 1856.

*Suspect David's father, Major David, Sr. is also buried at the Paxton Family Cemetery, like his mother Sarah (died 7 years later, in 1828). The 1936 WPA survey there recorded David, age 16, died "in the 17th year of his age," in March 1821. The 2011 photo of his marker that matches Sarah's, has his age just below the soil line. The WPA report of his age could be incorrect. The Major died between 3 Feb 1821 and 30 May 1821 (will written and probated), which would cover Mar 1821.

Following the 25 Feb 1872 death of his widowed wife, Hannah, the following occurred: "SALE OF A VALUABLE Farm in Rockbridge, ----In pursuance of a decree of the Circuit Court of Rockbridge, pronounced on the 23d day of April, 1873, in a cause therein pending between H. Edmondson's Ex'or vs., H. Edmondson's Legatees, the undersigned Special Commissioners for the purpose appointed, will sell at auction, on the premises, On Saturday, the 7th of June, 1873, that valuable tract of land situated in Rockbridge County on the North River Canal, about seven miles from Lexington, of which DAVID EDMONDSON, died, seized. This sale is made for the purpose of distribution amongst the legatees of David Edmondson dec'd, and the legatees of HANNAH EDMONDSON, dec'd. This farm contains 402 acres, is in a fine state of cultivation, and the soil is naturally as fine as any in the county of Rockbridge and lies immediately on the Canal and contiguous to a capital Merchant Mill, owned by Andrew Agner. Persons desiring to purchase can see the premises by calling on Mr. Robison the tenant now in possession, or on A. Agner, Esq., who wll doubtless, take pleasure in showing the farm to any one desiring to look at it. There is a large and well finished Brick Dwelling on the place. Kitdhen, Barn, Stable and all necessary out-buildings. We believe this farm is one of the best for farming porposes, of its size, ever offered for sale in the county, but we do not wish any one desiring to make an investment to rely upon our representation, and invite them to see the land and examine it for themselves. TERMS.—Cash in hand sufficient to pay the costs of suit and expenses of sale, and as to the residue of the purchase money, upon credits of 1, 2 and 3 years, in equal instalments, bearing interest from the day of sale, the purchaser giving bonds with good personal or collateral security, and the title to be retained until the purchase money is paid, as ultimate security.
