Richard was the son of Charles and Winona Alden. He married Mildred Bohne on November 10, 1939 in Mildred's grandmother's parlor in Francisco, Michigan. After serving in the US Army in WWII Richard owned Wuerthner Bros. Inc. in Michigan Center. He and Mildred moved to their home on Round Lake in 1978 and enjoyed many years as lake dwellers. Richard water skied every year on his birthday until he was 80 years old. He loved dancing with his wife at the Ambassador Dance Club, held at the Hotel Hayes and attending festivities at the German-American Club, which he belonged to for many years. He also enjoyed playing golf and attending U of M football games with friends. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ for more than 50 years.
