FIRTH, ROBERT MANDT - Of Horton, passed away Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at Carelink of Jackson, age 88. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Amy Firth; and his brothers, John and James. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Virginia; children, Robert Jr., Gary (Darlene), Thomas (Susan); seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Jane Bailey, Amy Louise (K.C.) Lu, Isabel (Bill) Korrer; brother-in-law, Jack (Rita) Rice; and numerous nieces and nephews. Robert retired from Yardman & General Products and proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the China-Burma Theater during World War II. He was one of the first Eagle Scouts Troop 39. He enjoyed playing the spoons with the "Hot Shots", a charitable band who provided entertainment for handicapped children. Robert was a loving family man and good friend to many. His main focus in life centered around his family. Many of his happiest memories involved hosting the Firth Family Reunion for 34 years with relatives from around the world attending. He will be sadly missed and treasured forever. Funeral services will be held at the Wetherby Funeral Home on Saturday, October 4, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. with the Reverend Edward Ross officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 12:00 until the time of service. Interment will take place at Roseland Memorial Gardens. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to everyone at Carelink of Jackson for their genuine compassion and loving care of Robert.
