Sylvan Ralph McIntier was born on February 26, 1917 in Lyman, son of John Arnold McIntier and Charlotte Emily Smith. He spent his boyhood at Lyman and attended the Lyman school.


He was inducted into the army on April 23, 1942. He received basic training at Camp Callen, California. He was then stationed at Camp Haan and with the Coast Artillery at Beneua Arsenal in California. He was sent to Ft. Bliss, Texas for infantry training. He was then sent to Ft. Meade, Maryland and sailed for the European Theater on January 5, 1945. He was a member of Company G of the 393rd Infantry Regiment, 99th Infantry Division. Twenty-five days later he was killed in action in Belgium on January 30, 1945.


He was 27 years of age and was never married. His remains were returned from overseas under the Repatriation of World War II Dead program. Funeral services were held at the Eckersell Funeral home on May 8, 1945, and he is buried in Archer. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart.
