Daughter of the late Edward Stratton Sawyer and Jean Alexandra Lillingston (formerly Sawyer), of Wynnstay Hotel, Putney, London; wife of Air Chief Marshal Sir Trafford Leigh-Mallory, K.C.B., D.S.O. (killed in same accident) in air crash over France in a Avro York, MW126, that took off from RAF Northolt. During the first leg of the journey the aircraft veered off course by some two hundred and fifty miles and crashed in the mountains around Grenoble, France, killing Trafford, his wife, Doris, his personal assistant, Flight Lieutenant Peter Chinn, and the crew.
Initially listed as missing, the crash site and the bodies were eventually discovered on 4 June 1945.
