Florida Man Killed By Train

JASPER, Fla. – An elderly Hamilton County man was killed Sunday night when his pickup truck, parked on a Seaboard Coastline railroad track in Suwannee County, was hit by a train.
The Florida Highway Patrol identified the dead man as Paul Basco Tyre, 69, of Rte. 3, Jasper. His body was taken to Harry T. Reid Funeral Home here.
State patrol reports said Tyre’s 1973 Dodge pickup was parked facing west on the track, as if it was set to coast down the rails.
A westbound train rounded a curve and smashed into the rear of the pickup about 11:45 p.m., sending it flying off the track.
The train’s engineer, John Huey Stalvey of Callahan, Fla., was not injured in the accident.
A state trooper said this morning it was undetermined why Tyre’s car had been parked on the track. Investigation into the accident is continuing by the Florida Highway Patrol, reports said.
The pickup motor was off but the lights were on at the time of the collision, reports said.
Tyre died of a massive head injuries received in the accident, reports said. He was taken by ambulance to the funeral home, where the autopsy was performed.
Damage to the pickup was set at $1,500, while the train received about $200 damage.
No charges were filed against Stalvey or Seaboard Coastline.

JASPER, Fla., -- Funeral services for Paul Tyre, 69, of Rte. 3, Jasper, who died Saturday night from injuries received in a train and truck accident near Madison, are to be held Tuesday at 3 p.m., at New Hope Baptist Church near Jennings. Burial is to be in the church cemetery.
He was a native of Hamilton County and was a resident of Valdosta, Ga., for many years. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and was a retired Central Truck Lines driver.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Nedra Holton Tyre; three daughters, Mrs. Linda Jane Aultman of Tifton, Ga., Mrs. Paula Ray of Lake Park, Ga., and Miss Lora Alice Tyre of Jasper; one son, Paul Anthony Tyre of Jasper; two brothers, Jesse Tyre of Jennings and A. B. Tyre of Jasper; three sisters, Mrs. Vernice Howell of Jacksonville; Mrs. Rachel Dobler of Maryland, and Mrs. Grace Scaff of Jasper; and five grandchildren.
