In 1883, Benjamin was married to Harriett Anthony of Van Buren County, Iowa. The couple made their home in Farmington, Iowa, where they raised a family of three sons and four daughters. Benjamin supported his family by working as a shoe maker and shoe repairman. He became a widower in 1923, then he died October 27, 1927. He was buried in Farmington Cemetery beside his wife.
