My husband's great great grandfather.
- Many Ancestry researchers have another William Prescott confused with this William Prescott. This William D Prescott was born in 1837 in Georgia. I have not fund documented proof of his parents. Online researcher have him the son of a Thomas Prescott and Sarah Sapp in Appling County Georgia. THIS IS INCORRECT! I have researched this and Thomas and Sarah did have a son named William, but he was William F, not William D. Unfortunately, some researchers just take other researchers information at face value and don't actually research the details and a lot of incorrect information gets shared.
The Prescott, Sandel, and Naul families were early pioneers of Walker County Texas. Many of which are buried in the East Sandy Cemetery in Walker County, which is built on land owned by Rev Peter W Sandel and is reserved for those related to the early pioneers. Charles's parents and several siblings are buried there.

There is some question into William's actual REAL birthdate. I have records in hand, Band going off of his pension application in 1904, and various census records, it puts his birth in 1837.
There is also speculation on his actual birthplace. He is listed in several census records as being born in Georgia. His son William Yancy Prescott's death certificate states his father was born in Atlanta Georgia. I know he enlisted into the C.S.A in May 1861 in Marshall Texas He was assigned to Hood's Brigade, 1st Texas Infantry, and that brigade was made up of men from the following counties in Texas...Marion, Cass, Polk, Houston, Harrison, Tyler, Anderson, Cherokee, Sabine, Newton, San Augustine, Nacogdoches... and later added were Galveston and Trinity. It is very likely, he and his parents and siblings left Georgia and came to Texas early in William's life and he then joined the CSA from Texas.

Inscription
Dearest husband
We must lay thee
In the peaceful
Grave's embrace
But thy memory
Will be cherished
Till we see thy
Heavenly face
Gravesite Details
Inscription print small and hard to read
UPDATE: I visited the grave on Saturday 4/12/2024 and found that the top part of William's headstone is no longer attached to the base, but sitting next to it. It is still legible and present.
