Shirley Elizabeth Hollie "Susie" Abbott, 90, formerly of 184 Iris Lane, died Monday, March 9, 2009 at Roman Eagle Memorial Home. She had been in declining health for two years and a resident of Roman Eagle for the past three years.

Mrs. Abbott was born in Caswell County, NC on September 5, 1918, a daughter of the late Joseph Holland Hollie and Laura Lillie Bell Dixon Hollie.

She had lived her life in Danville, VA and she had retired, after 25 years, from Belk-Leggett Department Store where she had worked as a sales clerk.

She was a member of the Belk-Leggett Retirement Club and a member of the Tabernacle for 68 years, where she taught sunday school, sang in the church choir for many years, and was a member of the Forever Young Club.

She was married to George Wesley Abbott, who predeceased her.

Susie was the last surviving family member of her generation. She was predeceased by two brothers, Howard Hollie and Allen Hollie, two sisters, Vernie H. Hollie and Ola H. Walker, and one Great-Grandson.

She is survived by a son, James Holland "Buddy" Abbott, and his wife, Nancy J. Abbott, of Danville, VA and a daughter, Delores Abbott Hall, and her husband, Ryland J. "Jimmie" Hall, of Danville, VA; five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 13, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. from the Tabernacle with the Reverend Lamarr Mooneyham officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park.
