OBITUARY
James Hardey Calderwood was born in New Castle, PA May 9, 1854 and died Sept 25, 1906, being 52 years 4 months and 16 days old.
He lived at New Castle until 1883, and from there he moved to Brookfield, MO where he lived until May 1885, at which time he moved to Banner county, NE where he made his home until March 1905, when he moved to Gering.
He was married Sept 30, 1891 to Miss Linnie Clapp of Banner county. Five children were the fruits of this union, three of whom, Mabel, Abbie, and Herbert, together with the wife, three brothers in the east and one sister, Mrs Minnie (Nannie) Cameron of Scottsbluff, are left to mourn his loss.
Mr Calderwood joined the Methodist church fourteen years ago, and remained a faithful and consistent member of the same until the time of his death.
A kind and loving husband and father, an earnest Christian and esteemed and obliging neighbor. He will be sadly missed in the the community where he has lived.
Knowing that his time was short his great anxiety was for the welfare of the family he was soon to leave, he planned each item for his burial asking to be laid in the family burial place. These directions are being faithfully carried out by the bereaved ones.

Gering (NE) Courier, Sept 28, 1906, pg 1

{note: this and census records indicate the grave marker is off two years for birth. Conflicts with sister Nannie, so either Census records off or Nannie fudged her age..or combination of both. Too late now!}
