Obituary:

Funeral services for Lula Bell Lang Quarles, 84, of Conroe, Texas, will be held Thursday, January 17 , 2002, at 10 a.m. in Cashner Colonial Chapel with Brother Ray Hyden officiating. Interment will follow in Pool Cemetery next to Union Grove Baptist Church with Cashner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Quarles was born December 7, 1917, on the "Old Gentry Place" which is 7 miles north of Montgomery, Texas to Lue Isaac Turner and Sarah Lula Gregg Turner. She passed away January 13, 2002 in Conroe, Texas due to a stroke suffered on December 23, 2001. She was a Baptist. Mrs. Quarles worked many years in the cafeteria at CISD and retired in 1988. She continued to be active with her hand made crafts, tending her flower and vegetable garden and to her chickens. She loved to can her fruits and vegetables and share them with family and friends. She will be truly missed by so many.

Mrs. Quarles was the great granddaughter of Samuel and Emily Midkiff Turner who settled in the new Republic of Texas in 1837 and the granddaughter of William Cecil and Emily Jane Hemphill Turner and Hiram John and LaVonia Carlisle Gregg, early settlers of Montgomery County, Texas.

Mrs. Quarles was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother, Rose Turner; sister Nina Evaloria Turner and Lois Loraine Turner and brother William Norris "Bill" Turner. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Oscar Curtis Quarles of Conroe, Texas; son, William O. "Bobby" Lang and wife, Hazel Baylor Lang of Conroe; daughter Betty Lang Walker and husband, Ed of Cuero, Texas; grandsons, Michael Lang, Kenneth Lang of Conroe, Texas; granddaughters, Darlene Lang Leathers and husband Don of Maud, Texas; Sandra Walker of Spring, Texas; Sharon Walker Anderson and husband David of Cedar Park, Texas; great- grandsons, Jason Lang and wife, Melissa of Madisonville, Texas; Brady and Brandon Leathers of Maud, Texas; great-granddaughters, Maria "Ria" Winter of The Woodlands, Amanda, Emily and Alexandra Anderson of Cedar Park, Texas; great-granddaughter, Stormy Lang of Madisonville, Texas; her beloved sister, Jesse Mae "Daisy" Brown of Conroe Texas; sister-in-law, Willie Lee Turner of Conroe, Texas; special nephews Roy and Wayne Brown of Conroe, Texas and many other nephews, nieces and friends also survive. Pallbearers include Roy Brown, Wayne Brown, Kenneth Lang all of Conroe, Texas; Jason Lang of Madisonville, Texas and Brady Leathers and Brandon Leathers both of Maud, Texas. Honorary pallbearers include Andy Brown and Michael Lang. In lieu of usual remembrances, donations may be made to Crown of Texas Hospice, 100 I 45 North, Box 103, Conroe , TX 77301.
