Allen H. Newell, 87, died on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at a local healthcare facility.

He was born on Lookout Mountain, Tn., and raised in Lakeview, Ga.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Martel and Ida Mae Newell, brothers, Charles, Scott, Roy, and sister Ruth.

He graduated from Notre Dame High school, class of 1940.

He received an honorable discharge after serving in the US Navy in WWII on the USS Independence. He worked as a printer at Olan Mills and retired from Target
Graphics.

He was a member of the Graphic Communications Union Chattanooga, Local chapter 165-C. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Holy Family Council 6099. He was a Eucharistic minister for the homebound at Saint Stephen Church.

He was active for many years in the Boy Scouts, Cherokee Area Council. He was a lifetime member of Allemande Hall and Star Twirlers Square Dance Club.
He enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, cooking, square dancing and wine making. He was an avid crafter making figurines, rosaries, christmas ornaments, and afghans.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Frances Stolpmann Newell; two daughters, Diane Brown (Pam) of Baton Rouge, La.; Francine (Tom) Labbe of Chattanooga, and one son, Chuck (Jen) Newell, also of Chattanooga, and seven grandchildren, Danette Brown of Acworth, Ga., Alyx, Tessa and Riley Labbe of Chattanooga, and Ellie, Evan and Zoe Newell, also of Chattanooga. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Chattanooga for their compassionate support and service.

Celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Saint Stephens Catholic Church, with Father Gilbert Diaz officiating.

Interment will be 10 a.m. on Tuesday at Chattanooga National Cemetery will full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be make to Hospice of Chattanooga, P.O. Box 19269, Chattanooga, Tn. 37421, or your favorite charity.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday, at Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 E. Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, Tn. 37421.
