HELEN E. RUMMENS

Helen Eileen Rummens , born July 17th 1922 in Capps Creek, Missouri, died peacefully on July 22nd 2008 in Chico, California at the age of 86.

A remembrance and celebration of Helen's life will be held July 26 at 11am at the Chapel of the Newton -Bracewell Chico Funeral Home (680 Camellia Way, Chico, CA 95926).

Born to Frank and Augusta Reynolds, Helen spent her childhood years in Missouri, learning the skills of a farming family and attending the local school. She went on to graduate from Midway High School in Newtonia MO. Shortly after the start of WWII, she took a clerical civil service job supporting the US Military at Camp Crowder in Missouri. Frank and Augusta provided a very stable home and a strong spiritual modeling that would set both the direction of her life and how she would nurture her own family in many wonderful ways. Helen was blessed to have eldest sister Jeanne, brother Carl and little sister Margaret in her life - all of whom stayed loyal and close to one another throughout the years.

In 1945 she moved to join her family in El Monte California where her father joined the building trade. It was in April of 1946 where she met the love of her life, Donald Rummens at a family picnic. Don proposed to her in June of that year and they were married August 18th. They remained happily together and in love for the next 58- ½ years. They celebrated their 58th anniversary with a family cruise to the Alaska inside passage, along with their children and spouses.

Shortly after their marriage, Don and Helen settled in El Monte where they brought their daughter Carla, and son David into the world. From the moment she met Don until her dying day, Helen committed herself to providing a stable home and family life for Don and the children. Her endless love and gentle yet firm guidance and her commitment and love for Christ gave Carla and David strong internal compasses that would show them the way through all the days of their lives, in both the easy and difficult times. Her sensitivity, kindness, and warmth will be remembered for years to come by all family members and the many friends she made throughout her life.

Don's work eventually brought him and the family to Chico where they all lived happily and flourished. While the kids eventually left and made their own lives, Don and Helen remained in Chico where they became very active in their church. They stayed in their house on Filbert until Don passed away in early 2005. Carolee Freeman and Home Healthcare Management provided care for Helen while she remained at her home. Eventually, Helen moved to Country Commons where she was provided great and loving care until her passing. Carolee and HHC also provided fine supplemental care during her stay at the Commons.

Helen is survived by her brother Carl Reynolds of Anza, CA; sister Margaret Cobb of Brea, CA; daughter Carla Smith and son-in-law Lynn of Chico; son David Rummens and daughter-in-law Elizabeth of Mount Hermon, CA; grandson Michael Shaw and wife Alexandra (and baby) of Erkrath Germany; and granddaughter Alison Rummens of Chico.
