Dave as he was called was my best friend.
A man you could really call a true friend.
Always there when you needed him-no questions asked.
Never had to ask him to lend you a hand-he would just show up and start helping no matter what it was you were doing. He wouldn't leave till the job was done. Never would take a dime-he would just say-if I should need your help-just be there and he would smile and give you a hug. I was always there for him too till the very end.
When he became very ill he would call and say just come and get me. He always wanted to drive but now he could no longer do that. He was very weak. I would pick him up and say OK Buddy now where do you want to go? Want one of your Mickey D's Cheeseburgers? That was always our first stop.
He said just take me to your house and your "Old lady" (Betty my wife) will make me a fried baloney sandwich with a sliced tomato on the side and some ice tea. She would always oblige. They got off to a rocky start because Dave was kind of a cocky fellow-a tough southerner. He had an odd sense of humor but once you got to know his ways you kind of took to him. They became good friends. He had a tough life and it showed. I remember the first time I met him he was talking about going to a flea market and being I was retired and he wanted someone to go with him I told him I would go with him. It was about 30 miles away. He said OK I'll pick you up tomorrow morning-we'll have breakfast and be on our way. Well that's the day we really became friends with an "understanding". He picked me up and I could tell he was a little agitated that morning. His tough side was showing. Bully side. I told him to pull over and let's get a few things straightened out here. He did-we did. He shook my hand and we never had a problem after that. We were friends for years. It really hurt to lose him. He had a private funeral-just his family were allowed. That's the way he wanted it. We always felt a little lost because he was Cremated and I don't know what was done with his ashes so I couldn't even leave him a flower. My wife and I picked a close spot in our back yard where he use to sit and drink his coffee (as you can see in the picture I put on here) and placed a statue there and plant flowers in the spring for our beloved friend. Now with this Memorial I will be able to leave my friend flowers on his Angel Day & his Birthday which will be coming up this month.
God Bless you Dave. We miss you buddy.
